Orleans, MA – The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank is pleased to announce the donation of $5,000, through its Foundation, to Calmer Choice, a program committed to teaching young people how to effectively and safely manage stress and resolve conflict so they can live happy, healthy and successful lives.
“We recognize that students in our schools will face various stresses and conflicts throughout their lives,” said Dorothy A. Savarese, President and CEO of Cape Cod Five. “Calmer Choice’s mission of assisting young people in learning to manage their stress to lead healthier lives aligns well with Cape Cod Five’s priorities, which include supporting the health and well-being of residents. We are pleased to support Calmer Choice’s efforts in this regard.”
Founded in 2010, Calmer Choice partners with local schools to teach students personal and practical skills that can help them to increase their inner resilience, manage and reduce the impacts of stress, strengthen their ability to control their own emotional responses, increase their sense of well-being, and improve their academics.
“Cape Cod Five was the first foundation, back in 2010, to ever provide support to us,” said Fiona Jensen, Founder and Executive Director of Calmer Choice. “We are very, very grateful to have Cape Cod Five as a business alliance partner. Many schools are unable to raise the funds required to implement the programming we provide. These funds will assist us in providing this opportunity to more schools and students.”
Calmer Choice has brought the concept of mindfulness training to more than 8,000 Cape Cod public school children through programs held at 18 different schools across 12 separate school districts. One of the organization’s goals is to provide skills that will diminish the risk of violence, substance abuse, and other self-destructive behaviors.
