Orleans, MA – Cape Cod Five has awarded a $1,000 grant to support the Wareham Minutemen’s upcoming educational program entitled “A Visit from George Washington,” featuring a presentation by well-known Washington reenactor Mr. Samuel Davis who will speak about historical events during the Revolutionary War.
“Our country’s history defines us as citizens and as a community, and this unique educational program will bring our history to life, providing the opportunity to learn about the important events that shaped our country,” said Dorothy A. Savarese, President and CEO of Cape Cod Five. “We are pleased to support educational programs like this that work to reinvigorate our country’s history and present it in a new, engaging way.”
As part of the program, the organization will host presentations featuring Mr. Davis, a reenactor from Washington Crossing Historic Park in New Jersey who portrays General George Washington. The program will highlight the historical events of Washington crossing the Delaware, battles during the Revolutionary War and Washington’s time in Boston.
The Wareham Minutemen and Militia Companies, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization with the mission of providing historical education to the public through the reenactment of the 18th and 19th centuries. The organization works to enlist groups of men, women and youths to reenact the lifestyle of this historical time period. The organization was founded in 1974 to represent Wareham in the celebration of the bicentennial of the United States and was reformed in 2013 as an independent group to help celebrate the Town of Wareham’s 275th anniversary in July 2014.
